Newquay Primary Academy

Newquay Primary Academy is a brand new school. We opened the doors to our new school building in 2025.

We are proudly part of the Cornwall Education Learning Trust and share a site with Newquay Tretherras secondary school. This means that, from Reception through to Sixth Form, our learning community shares an approach to education which focuses on achieving excellence and ensuring that each child achieves their potential.

What's new?

  • We would like to invite you to an information meeting about the role or Community Champion. The meeting will take place at 5.30pm on the 16th June at NPA. Community Champions work alongside school leaders to help share what it really feels like to be part of our school, from the perspective of pupils, families, staff and the wider community. The insight gathered is also shared with CELT Trustees, helping to ensure that the voice of our school community is heard at a wider level. This isn't a traditional governance role as there is no formal responsibility for decisions or scrutiny. Instead, Champions focus on listening and bringing together the voices and experiences of our community. As a Champion, you might: Talk to pupils, parents and staff Attend school events and activities Get a feel for day-to-day school life Share what's working well and where things could improve Your insight will help strengthen connections between the school and community, ensuring everyone feels heard, supported and valued. If you are passionate about our school and would like to get involved in a flexible, rewarding volunteering role, we would love to see you at the meeting!

  • A huge thank you to the 12 children from choir who represented NPA so spectacularly yesterday evening at the Eco Beats Jamboree! They had a fantastic day sifting for microplastics, creating necklaces from rubbish found on beaches, designing album covers, and singing their hearts out throughout the day, ready for their performance in the evening. A few weeks ago, the children had spent a fun-filled, creative day with songwriter Emily Barden, taking on the challenge of composing a brand-new eco-themed song for local schools written entirely by the children in the workshop. It was incredibly special to see them bring that song to life in front of a church full of adults with a truly goosebump-worthy performance. The children did amazingly well and we are all super proud of how well they represented NPA. A huge well done to Miss Sutherland and Mrs Hughes as well for making it happen!

  • As part of our RE learning, yesterday Tamar Class visited a Christian church to help them answer the questions: How do Christians welcome a new baby? and How do people show that they belong to each other? During their visit, they learned that Christians welcome a new baby through a baptism. Parents and godparents stand around the font while the baby is baptised. A cross is drawn on the baby's head and a candle is lit as special symbols. Family and friends then celebrate together to welcome the baby into the Christian community. Our learners also learnt that Christians show they belong to each other through marriage. A wedding is a celebration of love where a vicar reads from the Bible and the couple exchange rings as a symbol of love and commitment. The children had great fun taking part in a pretend wedding and baptism, helping them bring their learning to life.

  • This half term, Trent class have been exploring the design of Greek pottery. They have worked hard this week to create their final piece which was inspired by scenes of Greek warfare or mythology. This piece of art required them to use their learning of relief printing and the final pieces looked fab! Well done Trent class.

  • We now have seven butterflies hatched only a few left to go! Joshua Class have really enjoyed watching the butterflies this morning and were able to finish their butterfly diaries. The children have done some amazing drawings and written sentences to describe what the butterflies look like now. We then chopped up some fresh fruit for the butterflies to eat. Joshua Class are really excited for tomorrow, when we will be able to release them and watch them fly. Well done, Joshua Class, for making such brilliant butterfly diaries!

  • Caterlink staff Emma and Sally have spent time in the academy this week with our learners. They kicked off their sessions with Joshua Class on Monday with a fun workshop around using a knife and fork correctly. This was followed by workshops with our other year groups, which included making rainbow pizzas and breadmaking. Thank you to Caterlink for holding these workshops our learners had a lot of fun and came away from the sessions with new skills. "Emma and I have been in doing the added value sessions with your amazing pupils - they are such a credit to the school. Amazing manners all round" - Sally from Caterlink
