    Emergency school closure procedure

In case of adverse weather conditions, which may result in closure of the school, we would like to make you aware of the emergency academy closure procedures. Closure of the school is not made lightly and if it is at all possible to remain open, we will. The criterion used for a decision to close the school is listed below for your information:

In the case of extreme weather, a risk assessment is made by the headteacher in consultation with the Trust Leader. The facts considered are:

    1. Are there sufficient staff able to get to the school in order to ensure safe child/adult ratios?
    2. Do conditions on school grounds pose a hazard and therefore a risk to the health and safety of learners, families and staff?
    3. Is the temperature in school within accepted guidelines, and are all facilities (water, electricity, toilets and kitchen) operational?
    4. Are conditions forecast to worsen, which may put staff and families driving home at risk?

Having assessed these risks, once a decision is made to close the school, Cornwall Council is notified and information is automatically passed to BBC Radio Cornwall and Radio Newquay, which announce the notice on their websites and over the air.

Our own school website will be updated with information as soon as is practical.

We will also update our Facebook page and send a text to all parents and carers who are registered with our text service.

A full list of all schools closed in Cornwall can also be found at https://www.cornwall.gov.uk/schoolclosures.

You may find the following websites useful:

In any event, a member of staff will be at school in order to answer telephone enquiries on 01637 820150, however please be aware that the line(s) will be extremely busy or unavailable when a large number of parents are calling at the same time.

    Adult behaviour in our school

Please be aware that if you arrive at our school at any time without an appointment, the member of staff you wish to see may be in a meeting or teaching. It would be beneficial to you, and the member of staff, to make an appointment first.

All our staff have a right to conduct their duties in a safe environment free from:

    • Verbal Abuse
    • Humiliating behaviour
    • Aggressive behaviour
    • The threat of physical assault
    • Online harassment

We reserve the right to ask you to leave the premises should your behaviour be inappropriate for our academy. For more information, please see our Unacceptable Behaviour policy.

    Thank you for your co-operation.
