At Newquay Primary Academy, the specialist base class sizes are 9 in Early Years to Key Stage 1, and 16 in Key Stage 2.
Each class has a classroom base, their own toilets and a cloakroom. We also have an outside free-flow provision area.
Learners are taught by a dedicated specialist base teacher. They will also be taught by mainstream classroom teachers when they are able to access the mainstream classroom.
The class has a teacher who stays with them for the whole day and is the first point of contact for parents.
We also have a support team of two HLTAs who are autism and speech and language trained.
We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 curriculum across all subjects, adapting learning to meet the individual needs of each child. Each learner follows a personalised timetable designed to support their strengths, interests and developmental needs.
In addition to the core curriculum, children in the Robin Class take part in daily 'Learning for Life' sessions, which focus on developing the practical, social, communication and independence skills needed for everyday life.
Learners will have the opportunity to access the mainstream classes when it is appropriate for their individual needs. This will be a planned opportunity within their day and learning journey.

Here are some inks to sensory-friendly and independent options:
Asda's Easy On Easy Wear sensory-friendly school uniform range helps with independent dressing and is sensory-kind for extra comfort. Items feature easy fastenings, pull-on styles where possible, printed care instructions (all labels removed), soft threads and non-bulky seams.
M&S also offer some sensory-friendly uniform items, including velcro shirts.
Adaptive Clothing is an independent retailer with a wide range of sensory-friendly items on offer.
Specialist base learners will be very welcome to join the extra-curricular opportunities on offer at Newquay Primary Academy. We will share our range of clubs at the beginning of each term.
We will be arranging some transition visits where you will be able to meet the staff and visit the setting.
Decisions for placement are made with the Local Authority (LA). Requests for placement are through the EHCP annual review process including consultation with a SEND case worker from the LA. There is no preference towards learners either within feeder schools or currently on roll within our school.
