Reading Café

MAY 24, 2023

Yesterday afternoon we hosted our inaugural Newquay Primary Academy Reading Café – and it was a fantastic event!

The café was all about creating a moment where parents, grandparents, come together with their children to share the love of stories and reading for pleasure.

Thanks to everyone that came, it really was wonderful seeing everyone sharing stories with their children.

We hope to be able to run Reading Cafés like this every term – and are now running a Reading for Pleasure Book Swap scheme on a Friday morning at drop-off. Please see your class teacher if you need further information on this.

Happy reading!

Dave the Dog

MAY 19, 2023

Joshua class have had a wonderful Friday. They were all so excited to meet Dave the Dog today. The class talked about how to take care of dogs. The children used some lovely vocabulary, that they have been learning this term – like hydrate and shelter.

The children wrote some wonderful sentences about Dave and then they went to the Orchard. The children were engaged and busy all morning. Many bugs were found. Lots of millipedes and insect eggs!

They also released their class butterflies into the Orchard. It was a beautiful Joshua class moment! Reggie found a very interesting insect sac at the Orchard. The class are not sure if it is a chrysalis, so have brought it back to class to watch it hatch! We wonder what the children will find on Monday!!!

Dave was also spoilt rotten, getting lots of love and playtime. Joshua class did a fantastic job of taking it in turns to walk him.

Well done Joshua class for all your discoveries and nature art creations. Fabulous communication and active learning. What a lovely morning in the sunshine!

Flower power

MAY 18, 2023

In art, Tamar class have been doing line drawings of fairies using pencils.

The children went to the orchard to collect flowers to use as accessories for their flower fairies.

They used water colour paints to add colour to their line drawings and then cut up our flowers to add extra detail to our pictures.

We’re sure you’ll agree that Tamar class did a fantastic job!

Bog Baby

MAY 18, 2023

Joshua class have enjoyed listening to the story ‘Bog baby’.

They used super sentences to describe what the Bog Baby looked like, and then had a go at making their own bog babies using clay and different materials for attaching wings, eyes and legs

Outside in Discover & Do, the children made their own habitats for their Bog Babies, some even added fresh herbs incase they got hungry!

The children looked closely at the illustrations of ‘ bluebell wood’ and used cotton buds and paint to create our own pictures.

English made tasty!

MAY 18, 2023

In English, Tamar class is learning how to write a set of instructions. Firstly, the children identified the key features of instructions; title, ingredients, method and photos.

They then followed a set of instructions for “how to make Gruffalo crumble”. It was great fun and very tasty!

Next, the class will write their own set of instructions for “how to make Gruffalo crumble”.

Eden Project

MAY 17, 2023

Joshua and Tamar class had a wonderful Spring adventure at the Eden Project on Monday. The children learnt all about the things a seed needs to survive. Then dissected a seed! They explored, looking for signs of Spring. All the children planted a seed for the Eden project.

The children then had time to explore the biomes and all the beautiful areas.

Well done for all of the amazing learning and walking.

Identifying garden and wild plants

MAY 4, 2023

Yesterday, Tamar class went to the orchard to find and identify garden and wild plants. The children discussed where they might see plants growing (in a garden, in a park, in woodlands, by a river etc.) and the difference between garden and wild plants. Garden plants are plants that are planted and looked after by people. Wild plants are plants that grow without help from people.

Miss Cowell set a challenge for the children… can they find and identify any wild or garden plants in their gardens or when they go for a walk?
